The earliest recorded meeting at the large industrial town and seaport of Barrow-in-Furness was in 1873. Barrow is part of Cumbria but was historically linked to Lancashire. The first meeting recorded in the Racing Calendar was held on Wednesday 4th June 1873. By 1880 Barrow FC were playing their early games on what was then known as 'The Old Race Course ground' which is now the site of Furness Cricket Club. Barrow’s final race meeting was on Friday 7th July 1876. However, two meetings were held in the early 1900's, although they were apparently not organised under the rules of racing. |
